Weekend cabin trip

This past weekend we were invited to a cabin up in the “mountains” with some of the couples from our church small group, and we had a blast! We were just above 5000 feet in elevation which was almost like being back in Denver, but certainly not quite like being in the familiar Colorado mountains.

SNOW!!

I hadn’t seen snow since July, so I was super excited to see the area covered in that familiar white powder. Ahhhhhhh! Beautiful.

We drove up on Friday night and played some games with the other couples and just hung out. On Saturday all but me and one other gal (also named Sarah and who has a cutie pie 3-month-old daughter) went skiing/snowboarding. Sarah and I had fun playing with the baby and I also was able to catch up on some of my digital scrapbooking. It was soooooo relaxing. This is one of my finished scrapbook pages from the weekend:

Dave had a great time skiing (like he always does) and the group came back from the slopes tired and hungry. We spent Saturday night eating good food, watching YouTube videos, talking, and playing more games. It was a blast!

It was such a great time and we loved getting to know some of the other couples better. We were sad to go on Sunday but we were so glad that we made the trip!

Random thoughts

I have a lot of random thoughts and happenings, but nothing worthy of its own post. So here we go, welcome to my brain!

• Dave has been out of town giving a presentation on the last seven years of research he has done while working towards his PhD at a national research laboratory.
• Because Dave is gone, I have been completely unmotivated to make myself dinner. Not because I don’t want to eat, but because it is a lot of effort to make a healthy meal for only one person. This is bad news for my diet.
• Gromit seems to be protesting Dave’s absence by ripping apart the wrappers on our Duraflame logs.

• It has been FREEZING cold lately. Actually, it has been below freezing here… as in -15 degrees. In the sub-zero temperatures I have been putting a sweater and snow boots on Gromit for walks. Laugh if you want, but the boots protect his paws from frostbite and also from being irritated by all of the de-icing chemicals being put all over the sidewalks. Once we get outside he doesn’t seem to mind having the boots on.
  

   

• I had to make a brunch item for a potluck meeting this morning. In one of my fun cookbooks I found a recipe for baked french toast and decided to give it a try. It turned out great! Let me know if you want the recipe.
• My mom, my sister, Kelly, and I have booked plane tickets to go to one of Daché’s bridal showers in Texas! I am so excited to be able to spend some more time with her and my brother before they get married in just two months!
• I am really getting into digital scrapbooking and am almost done with our 2010 album. Every once in a while I read some digital scrapping blogs for new ideas and products and a couple days ago I came across this cute desktop background from Shabby Princess that you can download for FREE and customize with your own pictures. Cool, huh?

Ok, well I think that covers all of my random thoughts… for now. I hope you all are staying warm in whatever part of the world you’re in!

80th Birthday Scrapbook

I have finally finished the digital scrapbook I promised to make for Dave's grandma's 80th birthday! This is my second attempt at a digital scrapbook and although it doesn't look like some of the layouts I see on various scrapbooking sites, I think it is pretty good for my second try and, more importantly, his grandmother will like it and it will serve as a nice memento of her party.Here are just a few of the pages I did for this book:

I think I'm getting a little bit better with each scrapbook I do. I can't wait until this book arrives in the mail and I get to proudly present Grandma Kay with her gift; I know she'll love it!

My first digital scrapbook

I have taken up a new hobby - digital scrapbooking. I still have a lot to learn and figure out, but I decided to just go for it my first time by making a photo book as a house warming gift for my brother who just bought his first house. The subject of the photo book? Our trip to California for Laura & Kyle's wedding! Here is just a small sample of some of the pages I created:

I know, I have a long way to go before I get the pages looking really cool but this is ok for my first attempt, right? I'm currently working on another photo book from Dave's grandma's 80th birthday party this past weekend so I hope that one will turn out a little better. I'll post pages from that when I get a little further into the project.

I've also started to create some cool Twitter backgrounds for Dave and myself.

 

Still pretty basic but I'm learning and growing with each new thing I do. I hope to keep practicing and get pretty good so that I can make yearly photo books for my family as the years go by. Wish me luck!
