The flood of '09

So 2009 isn't off to the good start that I thought it was. First I broke my toe and now this...

Dave texted me early on in the day saying that he thought our mini-fridge in the dining room (or rather, our dining nook since I hardly think that the 6 foot x 8 foot cutout of the living room qualifies as a whole other room) was leaking because there was a wet spot on the floor. He said he moved the fridge and put a towel down where it was wet to soak up some water and left for work.

Around lunchtime, Dave went back to our apartment to check on the water situation and found that the majority of our dining nook was wet with water. He called maintenance and after some further investigation they had concluded that our neighbor's water heater broke, was leaking and flooded under the shared wall and into our dining nook.

I came home from work to find this:

The carpet is ripped up, two industrial fans are blowing under the carpet to dry it and the sub-flooring, a dehumidifier is running, my dining room furniture and contents of my hutch are all over the apartment and the carpet is saturated, dirty and smells musty. The only good news is that our mini-fridge, which we also refer to as our beer fridge, is not leaking or damaged and the contents inside are still cold... and thank goodness because I sure needed one after all of this!

Welcome to the world!

We just found out that our good friends Dave and Jenny welcomed their fist child, Benjamin David, into the world on December 31, 2008! He was a little premature but a healthy and happy baby weighing in at 5 pounds 7 ounces. Congratulations Dave & Jenny, we can't wait to meet him!

Just when I thought 2009 was off to a good start...

We were home and trying to straighten up since we had a few rare days off from work and family gatherings. Dave was in the living room flipping through channels when he came across Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and called to me in the office that it was on. In my excitement to see Ty Pennington (who I am not ashamed to say is the the cutest carpenter on TV) I ran into the bedroom to turn on the other TV and misjudged my steps and ran my blistered toe into the wicker chest with a metal base sitting at the end of our bed. Instant broken toe.

The tip of my toe was very much right of where it should have been so I'm pretty sure it was broken. After a phone call to my nurse mother, we decided that there was nothing that a doctor could do for me so I put it back into place and taped it to my other toe.

It still hurts but I hope it will heal up soon. Leave it to me to break my toe trying to see a cute guy on TV. At least I can look back on this and have a good laugh!

Those were the days

A few of my high school buddies called and wanted to go out for the night and I couldn't resist! They have been like my big brothers since my Sophomore year in high school. Unfortunately Dave had a horrible cold that evening and didn't feel like joining us so after I filled him with chicken soup and NyQuil I was off. We met up at Mike's house and headed out to some local bars. Our original intention of playing trivia fell by the wayside when we passed by The Rio and decided that we must go in and have margaritas. If you have never had a Rio marg, you are missing out - they only allow you to have three in a evening because they are so strong and tasty! If ever you would like to try one, give me a call because I'm always up for it.

Anyway, back to my story. After our delicious margaritas we bar-hopped around town and really enjoyed catching up with each other and remembering our high school glory days. It was a fantastic night out and I can't wait to do it again when everyone is back in town.

Hooray Hockey!

Last night Dave and I got the opportunity to enjoy our very first Avalanche game at the Pepsi Center. We had club level seats right above the LED sign board and we enjoyed some tasty food and a great hockey game along with my parents. Even though our Avs lost and we didn't get to see any fights we had a great night!
